We are the Education Futures Trust. We change lives in Hastings and the surrounding area by helping children, families and vulnerable adults overcome barriers to achievement. Our area has one of the highest levels of deprivation in the region, with a third of children and young people in Hastings living in poverty. In response, we provide high quality services that make a real difference to local people’s life chances by building resilience and aspiration.
We will use the funding to get our Working Without Walls project off the ground. This is an inspirational survival skills and conservation course for young people in Hastings aged 14-21 years with low educational or economic outcomes. They will develop teamwork, communication skills, confidence, community involvement, resilience and work-based skills, leading to an accredited award in conservation alongside a tailored volunteer placement. Drawing on these experiences, the young people will acquire practical, social and employability skills, which will enhance their future prospects.
The funding will allow us to support five groups across the programme, reaching up to 60 young people. Additionally, the conservation work undertaken by them will impact on the local environment, benefitting many others in the community.
